I have only had one job where I wasn’t remote. It lasted 3 months. I’ve been a huge advocate for remote work ever since. But I don’t think everyone can do it, it takes a certain kind of team. When you get people who are capable of working remotely, what they can get done in their own space is incredible.
Two weeks ago I flew to Argentina to work with my team. I’ve been doing this twice a year for the last two years and I’ve slowly been getting better at it.
This time I got the team an Airbnb 5 blocks from where I was staying. We worked in the living room, had lunch together in the kitchen, and got a taste of what it’s like to work from home in the same home.
Some highlights:
- Oddly most of the team really likes broccoli empanadas
- Half of us prefer Mac to Windows
- Showing someone how you actually use AI is way more productive than just talking about it
The next couple of weeks are going to be fueled by what we started while in person. Lead magnets are coming soon that actually provide value. We launched our newsletter and learned we suck at newslettering (for now). Our screening process is about to get even better.
Now I’m back home working remotely. I know what the rest of the quarter holds and I’m enthusiastic about the next one.
Hire talent from my company, please.
