How to Hire a Nearshore Staff Accountant for Your CPA or CFO Firm

Federico WaldmanNovember 3, 20263 min read

To hire a nearshore staff accountant, US CPA and outsourced CFO firms usually want one thing: someone who owns reconciliations and month-end close during US business hours, without a US salary. Accountants placed by Resorsi between November 2025 and September 2026 earned $22,800 to $26,400 a year, against a US median of $83,680 for accountants and auditors.

What a Nearshore Staff Accountant Handles

When you hire a nearshore staff accountant, you are hiring for the execution layer of client work:

  • Bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Journal entries and accruals
  • Month-end and year-end close checklists
  • Supporting schedules for tax returns and audits
  • Cleanup of books for new clients

The partner or CFO keeps the client relationship, the review, and the sign-off. That split is what lets a firm take on more clients without adding US headcount.

A staff accountant is not a bookkeeper. A bookkeeper records transactions; a staff accountant closes the books and prepares the work a reviewer signs. If what you need is transaction volume, see how to hire a nearshore bookkeeping team in Latin America.

How One CFO Firm Scaled Its Accounting Team

A US fractional CFO firm hired its first accountant through Resorsi in November 2025. Between May and September 2026, it came back for four more accounting hires, including a junior accountant, as its client list grew. Each new client brought more close work, and the firm added accountants in Latin America instead of stretching its US team.

What to Check Before You Hire

Your software, tested. Ask for experience in your stack: QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, or whatever your clients use. Then test it. A reconciliation with one planted error tells you more than an interview answer.

An accounting degree, not a US CPA license. Accountants in Latin America hold a university accounting degree; in Argentina, the Contador Público typically takes five years. A US CPA license is issued by US state boards and is not needed for staff-level work. Your US CPAs keep review and signature.

US client experience. Ask which US clients they closed books for and which returns they supported. Candidates who have worked with US GAAP and US tax forms ramp up faster.

Written English. Review notes, client emails, and questions to the partner happen in writing. Test it with a short written task.

Tax season hours. Agree on availability for peak months before the offer, not in February.

Client data rules. If the person will see tax return information, check your obligations first. Under IRS rules for Section 7216, disclosing a client's tax return information to a preparer outside the United States generally requires the taxpayer's written consent, and Social Security numbers face extra limits.

What It Costs

  • Accountant: US median pay (BLS, May 2025): $83,680; Resorsi placements (annual salary): $22,800 to $26,400
  • Bookkeeper: US median pay (BLS, May 2025): $50,670; Resorsi placements (annual salary): $16,800 to $18,000

US figures are BLS medians before benefits, which add about 30% of total compensation. The Resorsi figures come from a small number of placements made between late 2025 and 2026. For other roles, see how much nearshore hiring in LATAM costs.

Resorsi has two models:

  • Direct hire: a one-time fee of 20% of the first-year salary ($4,800 for an accountant at $24,000), a 90-day replacement guarantee, and optional payroll at $100 per payment.
  • Employer of record: you pay the monthly salary with a 30% markup, plus $100 for payroll management, with no guarantee.

Resorsi places pre-vetted professionals in under two weeks. To scope an accounting hire, see how hiring with Resorsi works.

Which Country

Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina all overlap with US business hours, which matters for close deadlines and partner review. English varies more than time zones: Argentina leads Latin America in the EF English Proficiency Index 2025, but test every candidate regardless of country.
